How to Size a Horizontal Stretch Wrapper

Choosing the correct horizontal stretch wrapper (also known as an orbital wrapper) requires checking your product against two distinct physical boundaries: the machine's steel chassis and the rotating film ring.

The Two-Step Engineering Check

1. The Bounding Box: First, the product must physically fit through the machine's steel frame and beneath the top-press rollers. If your product is taller or wider than this physical opening (the "throat" of the machine), it cannot pass through.

2. The Diagonal Clearance: Once inside the machine, the film carriage travels in a circular path. To ensure the corners of your product clear this rotating ring without collisions, our calculator uses the Pythagorean theorem: √(Width² + Height²) = Diagonal. The internal diameter of the machine's ring must be safely larger than this final diagonal number.

Our sizing calculator automates this dual-failsafe math for you. Simply input the maximum width and height of the largest product (or bundle) you intend to run. If your product will be wrapped while sitting on a pallet, be sure to check the "Include 6-inch Pallet Height" box, as the pallet itself raises the geometric center of the load and increases the required ring size.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my product dimensions exceed the Pro 2200?

The Dynawrap Pro 2200 features a massive 2200mm (86.6-inch) ring, capable of handling extreme industrial loads. However, if your application exceeds this capacity, we can help. Our engineering team designs and manufactures custom chassis and oversized ring configurations tailored specifically to your unique product dimensions.

Why do I need to include the pallet height?

When wrapping a product that rests on a pallet (or wooden skids), the product is elevated as it passes through the center of the ring. This elevation fundamentally changes the geometric center of the load relative to the machine's rotating carriage. Adding the standard 6-inch pallet height ensures the calculator accounts for this shift and recommends a ring size with adequate clearance.

What is the difference between the Joy Series and Pro Series?

The Joy Series is our standard, highly reliable automatic orbital wrapper, ideal for standalone wrapping stations and moderate throughput. The Pro Series is engineered for high-volume, continuous duty cycles. Pro models feature heavier chassis construction, advanced HMI controls, and are specifically designed for seamless integration into fully automated, complex production lines.

Can I add a hybrid welding unit to any machine?

Hybrid welding units (indicated by a "W" in the model name, such as the Pro 1400W) use advanced heat-sealing technology to secure the tail of the stretch film, rather than relying solely on cling. This is critical for high-speed logistics and zero-tail requirements. Welding units come standard on designated "W" models and can be custom-engineered onto our larger 1900 and 2200 frames upon request.
