The Challenge: Steel service centers slitting master coils into narrower bands face severe packaging bottlenecks. Manual steel strapping allows air, dust, and moisture to reach the metal, causing red/white rust and surface damage that destroys inventory. Meanwhile, attempting to manually feed plastic wrap through the eye of a razor-sharp, multi-ton steel coil is incredibly slow, dangerous, and physically exhausting for operators handling both eye-to-wall and eye-to-sky orientations.

The Steel Processing Consumables Ecosystem
Raw steel, aluminum sheets, and slit coils are highly susceptible to moisture oxidation. Eliminating air and moisture from the outside of the package is critical to reducing red and white rust during flatbed transport and warehouse staging.
We strongly mandate deploying our VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) Stretch Film with your radial wrapper. As the Cross 600 applies the film through the eye of the coil, the active packaging emits rust-inhibiting vapors directly into the metal roll, eradicating moisture-related corrosion before the load ever reaches the stamping plant. Many steel service centers configure the machine to apply this VCI film simultaneously with an outer layer of HDPE woven fabric for extreme tear resistance.
